A life shaped by place

Sophie Shrestha’s paintings are born from the landscapes that have shaped her. First the mystical, timeless beauty of Ireland and then the spiritual, mountain-lined world of Nepal. Sophie’s art witnesses the interconnectedness of all flora and fauna on earth. She is continually inspired by the relationships between plants, animals and people, and how everything belongs to the same living system. She believes we are not separate from nature but part of it, and with that comes a responsibility to maintain a harmonious, respectful and sustainable relationship with our planet and with one another. The earth is our mother and we are her children. Sophie’s work is an invitation to remember the meaning of that relationship.

Sophie’s work blends the colour, stillness, and symbolism of her years in Nepal with the soft light , shifting skies, and grounded quiet of rural Ireland. Each canvas becomes a meeting point between these two homes.

Two Worlds, One Practice

Working from her studio in Kerry, where she lives with her husband and four daughters, Sophie paints what surrounds her. The changing seasons, coastal air, garden colour, and the small, everyday moments that root a life in place.
